At the June 2012 board meeting, the SVS Membership Committee approved all 208 2012 SVS membership applications. As of June 26, 2012, SVS membership was 3,683.
Of the new applications, 33 resulted from a special membership campaign that targeted members of the American Podiatric Medical Association (APMA). The podiatrists are now associate members of SVS.
In addition, 90 of the 2012 applications were for international membership. Among these, 78 applications were received from members of the Brazilian Society of Angiology and the Vascular Surgery (SBACV).
The International Relations Committee approved these members into the new SVS Chapter in Brazil. There are SVS Chapters in the countries of Colombia, Egypt, Hungary, and India.
The first officers of the Brazilian SVS Chapter are: Calógero Presti, MD, President; Fausto Miranda, Jr., MD, Vice-President, and Carlos Eduardo Virgini, MD, General Secretary.
