Julie A. Freischlag to be installed as ACS president

Former Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) President Julie A. Freischlag, MD, will be installed as the 2021-22 president of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) at the ACS Convocation Sunday, Oct. 24.

Freischlag led the SVS from 2013–14, the first woman to serve at the Society helm. She currently is dean of the Wake Forest School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, chief executive officer of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist and chief academic officer of Atrium Health Enterprise.

She is recognized as an accomplished surgeon-researcher and has received many awards for her achievements, including election to the National Academy of Medicine in 2015.

SVS member Richard A. Lynn, MD, who has served on multiple SVS committees—including as chair of the Community Practice Committee—will be installed as ACS second vice-president. Lynn received the inaugural SVS Excellence in Community Service Award in 2019.
