The Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) is starting 2021 with updated clinical practice guidelines and reporting standards for three vascular conditions.
Guidelines on chronic mesenteric ischemia have been developed to provide the best possible evidence for the diagnosis and treatment of patients with chronic mesenteric ischemia (CMI) from atherosclerosis, the guidelines focus on six specific areas. These include the diagnostic evaluation, indications for treatment, choice of treatment, perioperative evaluation, endovascular/open revascularization and surveillance/remediation. In addition to highlighting areas for further research, these guidelines are intended to help guide the optimal care of patients with CMI.
In clinical practice guidelines on thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) for descending thoracic aortic aneurysms, the authors provide 36 important recommendations on the use of TEVAR for descending thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs), as well as for other rarer pathologic processes of the descending thoracic aorta, derived from contemporary best evidence. The majority focuses on performing endovascular repair of TAAs, including many of the adjunct maneuvers required to deliver a “successful” TEVAR. The guidelines also address follow-up and hospital privileging required to perform TEVAR.
The authors of reporting standards for endovascular aortic repair of aneurysms involving the renal-mesenteric arteries clarify and update terminology, classification systems, measurement techniques and end-point definitions that are recommended for reports dealing with endovascular repair of complex abdominal and thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms involving the renal and mesenteric arteries.
